Texas License to Carry Classes
in Beaumont, TX
Get your Texas LTC — what plenty of folks still call a concealed carry permit or CHL — from someone who spent a career enforcing the laws you're about to learn. Capt. Danny Walker is a retired Master Peace Officer — 30 years on the badge, 12 on SWAT — and a Texas DPS-certified License to Carry instructor. Classroom, online at your own pace, or a combo that starts you from zero. Serving Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Vidor and all of Southeast Texas.
Three ways to get your LTC — pick what fits
Same license at the end of each road. The difference is how you get the classroom portion done and how much trigger time you want along the way.

What a Texas LTC class covers
Classroom instruction
The state-required curriculum: Texas law on carrying, use of force, dispute resolution, and safe handgun storage — taught by someone who enforced those laws for 30 years, not read about them.
Written exam
A written exam at the end of the classroom portion. Pay attention in class and you'll be fine — Capt. Walker makes sure every student understands the material before the test, not after.
Shooting proficiency
A live-fire proficiency demonstration with your handgun. Don't own one yet? Ask about a rental when you register — ammo and ear/eye protection can be added at signup too.
Exact eligibility and paperwork requirements are set by Texas DPS and change from time to time. Not sure where you stand? Call (409) 673-5075 — the call is free and the answer is straight.
Why train with Capt. Walker
30 years behind the badge
Retired Master Peace Officer. Three decades of real enforcement experience — not a weekend instructor certificate and a rented classroom.
12 years SWAT
Sniper and assistant commander. When he teaches you to handle a firearm under stress, it comes from having done it — and from teaching others to do it safely.
DPS-certified instructor & armorer
Texas DPS-certified License to Carry instructor, plus certified Glock and AR-15 armorer. He knows the law, the gun, and how to teach both without the fluff.
First time with a firearm? Start here.
Learn to Shoot — $90
The best first step for brand-new shooters: safety, grip, stance, and real trigger time in 3 hrs, at your pace, with zero attitude. Plenty of students take this first, then come back for their LTC.
Shooting Profeciency for Online - LTC Students — $50
Finished the online LTC course? Texas still requires the shooting proficiency in person. Come shoot it with Capt. Walker here in Beaumont and get the range portion done right.
Not in Texas? We also offer online license-to-carry options for Ohio, Florida, and Oregon — see all courses.

License to Carry questions
How much does a License to Carry class cost in Beaumont?
Straight answer: the in-person classroom course is $85, the online at-your-own-pace course is $59, the combo License to Carry + Learn to Shoot package is $175. For our in-person classes, the price listed is the price you pay — optional add-ons like ammo or a rental gun are line items you pick at registration, not sprung on you at the door. The online course is completed through our training partner's site.
Is a License to Carry class the same as a concealed carry class?
Yes. Texas renamed the Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to the License to Carry (LTC), so a concealed carry class, a CHL class, and an LTC class are all the same course here. If you've been searching for a concealed carry permit class near Beaumont — this is it.
How long does the Texas LTC class take?
The in-person classroom course runs 6 hrs + range. The online course is self-paced — most folks spread it over a few evenings — plus an in-person range session to finish. The State of Texas sets the required instruction, so be wary of anything promising a big shortcut.
Should I take the classroom or the online LTC course?
If you want your questions answered on the spot by an instructor who spent 30 years enforcing the law, take the classroom course. If your schedule is tight, the online course covers the same classroom material at your own pace. Either way, the shooting proficiency happens in person. Never fired a handgun? Look at the combo package instead.
What do I need to bring to class?
A valid government-issued photo ID, a handgun you're comfortable with (semi-automatic or revolver), and ammunition for the shooting proficiency. Don't own a gun yet? Rental guns, ammo, and ear and eye protection can be added when you register. We confirm exactly what you need before class day.
Who is eligible for a Texas License to Carry?
Eligibility is set by Texas DPS — it covers age, residency, criminal history, and a few other factors, and the rules have changed over the years. Rather than guess from a website, call (409) 673-5075 and describe your situation. Thirty years in law enforcement means you get an accurate answer, not a sales pitch.
Texas allows permitless carry now — why get an LTC?
Constitutional carry changed some things, but plenty of Texans still get the license: it's recognized by other states that honor Texas licenses, it can simplify certain purchases and interactions, and the training itself is worth having. What it means for your specific situation depends on the law as it stands — call and we'll give it to you straight.
I've never fired a gun. Can I still get my LTC?
Yes — and you're exactly who our Learn to Shoot class was built for. Start there, or take the combo package that pairs the full LTC course with hands-on shooting instruction. First-timers are the rule in our classes, not the exception, and nobody gets talked down to.
I took the online LTC course — how do I finish the shooting part?
The online course covers the classroom portion only. Texas requires the shooting proficiency to be completed in person with a certified instructor — that's our range proficiency session for online students ($50), held right here in Beaumont. Book it on the course page or call to schedule.
Can I sign up my spouse or a group together?
Yes. One checkout can cover a spouse, family members, or a whole team — add each person when you register and everyone gets their own seat and their own confirmation. For churches, businesses, and larger groups, we also run private classes — call to set one up.
How do LTC renewals work?
Renewal rules are set by Texas DPS and depend on your license and when it expires — and the requirements have changed several times over the years. Call us with your expiration date and we'll tell you exactly what you need. No guesswork.
